We know travelling this year has not been easy and many of you are itching to continue exploring. That’s why we have compiled a list of some incredible places to visit around the UK to continue inspiring your travels – safely of course!
We want to start off by saying that you don’t need to travel far to explore. You’d be surprised by the hidden gems you can find near your home. Take a walk around your neighbourhood – you never know what you might see.
So, without further ado, here are 6 spectacular UK staycation destinations to explore this summer!
It was hard picking just 6 but feel free to share your recommendations in our Drifters community group.
1. Devon
The great outdoors and great food – Devon offers the best of both! There are acres of beautiful countryside and miles of magnificent coastline waiting to be explored. If you’re looking for adventure, then you’ll love a trip to Devon with its wide range of different outdoor activities from water sports, cycling and climbing to leisurely strolls along the coast.
Devon has two enormous award-winning coastlines so fitting in some beach time is a must.
2. Lake District
You may have heard a lot about the Lake District lately and that’s because it is a beautiful picture-perfect staycation destination. It is a great place to connect with nature, be wary though… the weather can often be unpredictable so be sure to check the forecast before you go! However, even in the rain this place is still inspiring with its mountain peaks peeking out from the swirling clouds.
Our founder, Naudia, visited last year and this is what she said about her trip “I highly recommend visiting Buttermere lake, the views are spectacular and there are some great hiking trails around. For a bite to eat, visit Ambleside town for lovely cafes and unique independent shops.”
The Lake District is definitely Drifters recommended!
3. Snowdonia
Snowdonia is a mountainous region in North West Wales and if you’re not sure what to expect here – it has magnificent views!
But wait there’s more! Snowdonia isn’t just a giant mountain with breath-taking views… there are also forests, rivers and even a golden sandy beach.
Snowdonia is a vast area with lots of space meaning you can really get away, enjoy the open countryside and get some fresh mountain air – what could be more refreshing?
4. The Cotswolds
The Cotswolds – an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty!
This region is a great place to explore and has beautiful quintessentially English architecture with thatched cottages nestled away in pristine country gardens. The perfect city get-away and a lovely place for gentle walks in nature. You can get your dose of vitamin D, relax and realign your mind.
This is a perfect Digital Detox for those Drifters that need a well-deserved break.
Extra Tip! If you visit The Cotswolds be sure to check out the lavender field at Hill Barn Farm – lavender is great at promoting calmness and wellness whilst reducing stress, anxiety and restlessness. Definitely #DriftersApproved.
5. Stonehenge
One of the benefits about travelling is learning new things and immersing yourself in the history of a place. At Stonehenge you can do just that! The site was built in stages, beginning around 5,000 years ago before well-documented historical records. The use and purpose of these unique structures has been long debated. The most popular theories say that it was a memorial site, or that it was a prehistoric astrological ‘computer’ aligning with the sun – this is our favourite answer as the sunsets at Stonehenge are amazing!
These magnificent structures are a true wonder and make for a great day out.
6. York
York is a city full of history, beauty and great food! Plus, there are national parks, wild coastlines and Victorian architecture to explore just a stone's throw away. The city of York is an amazing place to explore – the streets are filled with history and little hidden gems to keep an eye out for.
We love these spectacular UK staycation destinations but we don’t love the bugs that also enjoy them too! So, if you do go, make sure you go prepared with a set of our Anti-Insect Sleepwear!
Before you go!
We recommend staying up-to-date with the latest Covid-19 government guidelines. These are constantly changing so be sure to look before you book. You can see any updates by checking this government page.
We have also made a list of top tips to follow when travelling during Covid-19:
- Mask up!
Masks are now a requirement around the UK so we definitely recommend packing a reusable mask! There are many safe and environmentally friendly options available. You can find out everything you need to know about choosing the right mask for you, here. - Hand Sanitiser is key!
Hand sanitiser not only protects you, but it also protects others! If you’re going on your adventures make sure to pack a little bottle and use it frequently. There are many options outthere, but we recommend using ones which include moisturiser to keep your skin soft and germ-free! - Keep your distance!
When you’re out and about be vigilant of others around. Be courteous and allow plenty of space between you and others.
